On a personal level, social media is used by individuals to document aspects of their day-to-day lives so, sharing videos of their holidays that nobody else wants to see, chronicling in unnecessary detail what they've had to eat that morning. Peoples opinions on political issues as well for example. Essentially, it is a breeding ground for vanity.
There is a degree to which there is a cross over between personal and professional - in which people use their social media accounts to further their own business interests. This might be an existing celebrity, though increasingly, the lines are becoming blurred - with celebrity. bloggers, bloggers, YouTubers etc.
How do Youtubers make money?
To be making money on youtube you need to be apart of the Youtube partnership programme. This is a partnership which works with creators to allow them to make earnings on videos depending on how many views and likes the channel and videos they produce receive.
One thing to note is that for this to become a job you must be uploading videos consistently and providing good content in order to receive good pay.

Before she was known for keeping up with the Kardashians, Kim K ran into a bit of a PR mess. That infamous video of her and an ex-boyfriend spread across the internet like wildfire.
But Kardashian saw her newfound attention as opportunity and became controversial. Overall she catapulted her career and the rest of the Kardashians to fame.
In short, Kardashians wouldn't let a crisis be the downfall of her brand instead, she used the situation as an opportunity and food a way to grow her career. When your brand is faced with a crisis, don't let the negative situation drive the perception of your brand. Get in front of it and turn things in your favour instead.

Self actualisation - Social media offers motivational information and statements, these allow for individuals to achieve more and succeed.
Esteem - Social media allows for others to feel welcomed and part of a community. This gives them more confidence and esteem.
Love and Belonging - Social media allows for real world friends to constantly interact with each other and strengthen their friendships as well as find new friends online.
Safety needs - Social media apps allow for people to display where they are or if they are ok or not at all Tims as a manner of safety display. Health work and direct information for mental health can be widely found on social media also. Ring doorbell.
Physiological needs - Online your able to order essential things such as food, water and products you may require easily through things such as Waitrose, M&S and Amazon. You can even access shelter building parts and generally homes. There is also ways to access dating sites to find potential life partners.

Many media institutions - especially television - encourage audiences to use social media. Watching television is increasingly becoming integrated with social networking via smart TV and black box devices.
For example, The X factor is fully integrated with live twitter feeds throughout the show. This encourages participation, and can also be used by media producers to measure the impact of participation.
